I bought one big mackerel and used half of that for today. It was really amazing. Can't wait to eat it again tomorrow! 🙂

So glad to hear! Try making salted fish fried rice with the leftover fish! Recipe is on the site 🙂

Yes, though it will taste quite different. Also depends on how salty it is, if it's quite mild you may have to salt it a bit more.

Can I use salted canned tuna instead of mackerel? It's hard to find any fish where I live.

10/10 Highly recommend! This is my new favorite dish, it's simple yet delicious. I didn't have fresh mackerel so I used 4 cans and two large heads of broccoli for 2 people with leftovers. I cooked the mackerel first and seasoned it with extra soy sauce at the end for more saltiness (extra 1/5 Tbsp). If you like salmon or tuna you'll enjoy this!

I made this tonight and it was amazing!! My first time making salted fish. My fish market didn’t have mackerel so I went with what I think was rainbow trout (it was in Bulgarian so I’m not sure) I ended up salting the fish for close to 24 hours due to my busy day. Followed your Instructions completely and you are right it can be a main course, it was for me! My husband and 4 year old son loved it and he doesn’t like fish - i have left over salted cooked fish in the fridge and want to make this again unless you have another recipe with salted fish I should try. So delicious!! Thank you!
