How to Make Fresh Coconut Milk

Published: Jan 14, 2016 · Modified: Dec 7, 2020 by Pailin Chongchitnant · This post may contain affiliate links

Most people just go to the store and grab coconut milk off the shelves when they need it. But when I was a kid in Thailand, coconut milk had to be made at home, and this video will show you how I used to do it.

The process involved cracking open a coconut, grating the meat, then hand-squeezing the creamy goodness out of the flesh. It's no quick job, but the resulting fresh coconut milk is better than anything you can buy.

Hi! I made it, it was perfect! Made a Tom Kha Gai with it, and for the first time I had all the ingredients, it was delicious!
But do you have any suggestions on how to use the coconut “bagasse”? Thank you! Love your webpage and have all your books!

Hi Juliana! Glad to hear! We typically just compost it because it's mostly fiber and not much flavour is left. But you can always throw it into smoothies or blended soups to add some fiber to your diet!
